The NRM Youth League in Ntungamo District has intensified mobilisation efforts aimed at rallying youths and first-time voters to support President Yoweri Museveni in the forthcoming general elections.
Party youth leaders say the strategy is deliberate, targeting the district’s large youth population through sustained sensitisation on President Museveni’s message, the January 15, 2026 polling date, proper voting procedures, and increased ground visibility to ensure every vote counts.
With young people forming a significant voting bloc in Ntungamo, the Youth League says its focus is on turning numbers into actual votes on polling day through structured and coordinated mobilisation.
The campaign has adopted a hybrid approach, blending physical grassroots engagement with aggressive digital outreach and sports activities as party youth structures seek to align modern campaign trends with traditional mobilisation methods.
“As Ntungamo youth, we are organising ourselves and reaching areas where most young people are,” said Phillip Ankwasa Tumuhimbise, the NRM Youth League Chairperson for Ntungamo District.
“Our major focus has been mobilisation—targeting young people to ensure they understand the NRM message and the gains they are protecting,” he added.
According to the youth leadership, the sensitisation efforts go beyond political persuasion to include civic education, with an emphasis on participation in democratic processes and safeguarding achievements attributed to the ruling party.
“The main message is participation in democracy through elections,” Tumuhimbise explained. “It is not just about favouring a candidate, but understanding the good of the party, the President, and why we must work together to protect the gains.”
Digital platforms have become a key tool in the mobilisation drive, with the Youth League leveraging widespread smartphone access to reach voters across the district.
“We realised that in Ntungamo, at least 80 percent of homesteads have smartphones,” Tumuhimbise said. “We are using that opportunity to explain to people the good of the party and its leadership.”
Beyond online campaigns, the Youth League has intensified physical engagement through rallies, community outreach activities, and meetings aimed at consolidating support ahead of polling day.
As part of the mobilisation strategy, the NRM Youth League in Ntungamo is hosting the Ntungamo NRM Youth Cup grand finale, a football tournament designed to attract and engage young voters through sport.
“This youth cup is not just about football,” Tumuhimbise said. “It is a mobilisation strategy that brings young people together and helps us engage them directly about the future they are voting for.”
